In Starbienino, in a picturesque 19th century manor surrounded by a garden complex with an Italian style villa, next to which a hotel pavilion was constructed recently, a branch of the Kaszuby Folklore University [KUL – Polish abbreviation] has been operating since the 1990’s. The main seat of the University is in Wieżyca. The University is a private education facility for adults providing lifelong learning program reminiscent of the “school for life” idea of a Danish scholar N.F.S. Gruntvig. The facilities are composed of a conference room for 60 poeple, seminar rooms, workshops /weaving, pottery and computer/, a hotel section with double rooms with bathrooms /66 accommodations/ and a kitchen – food complex. The entire complex is surrounded by a recreational area with historic trees and charming ponds. The university branch in Starbienino is an Ecological Education Center. From here one can view, among others, sun collectors, a central heating boiler run by bio-fuel and a wind power plant towering over the area.
